MATV Workshops

MATV offers a wide range of media production courses available to members of the Malden community. Through the years, we have trained 8 year-olds and 80 year-olds to produce their own TV programs! Our members produce in many languages and on a wide variety of subjects.

During the training process, all our participants discover the power of the electronic media to mold and shape the form of the message delivered. In order to take the training workshops, you must become a member of MATV.Link_2

Orientation
All members begin within a one evening orientation prior to taking any classes. The orientation provides a guided tour of the facilities; a history of access TV and MATV; an overview of our policies and procedures; and advice on how to effectively use the available resources.

Classes
MATV members can become certified in portable video production by taking the four- part Basic Video Production course, covering use of a camcorder and editing. In the process of taking this course, members will produce a short "certification tape". Once the certification tape has been accepted, members can go on to produce their own programs.

In order to become certified in studio production, members can take the “Intro to Studio Production” course, which provides an in-depth, hands-on introduction to studio camera, lighting, audio, tape tech, switching, directing, floor directing, and all aspects involved in putting together a studio production. After completing the course and helping out on two studio productions, members are then certified in Studio Production and can go on to produce their own studio shows.

After becoming certified, the next step in producing a program at MATV is to fill out and submit a Program Proposal Form.Download

Members are encouraged to continue taking intermediate and advanced classes in lighting, sound, editing, set design, and other specialized aspects of media production.

Hands-On Experience
Our job is to help you make your show successful and give you experience in using television media technology. A Production Seminar is offered to help producers get their show “off the ground” and allow current producers to show clips of their programs, soliciting feedback and support from their peers. A Crew Call Link_3   on this website allows producers to “plug in” to existing programs, to refine their skills, and help other members achieve their programming goals.

Teaching Opportunities
We are always looking to diversify our workshops offerings. If you are an experienced instructor with hands-on experience of any aspect of media production and are interested in teaching at MATV, please see the information about freelance positions at MATV on the Opportunities Page Link_4 of this web site.
